Hi, what is the use of service material. is it possible to prepare the bom for service mat. how to use service mat concept in manufacturing co?

Hi,

The service materaal with DIEN materail type is used to sale the services.It is not to procure the services.

For procurement of services SAP has given the service master, which u can create by transaction code AC01.

Service material normally used by SD guys to sale the services to customer.

Service material concept is that they can be performed internally or procured externally (outsourced). They cannot be stored or transported. So your question of having BOM or is answerd that NO.

There are two ways to handle the service Issue 1. By creating Service master for Service procurement , 2. By creating service master with material tyep DIEN for selling of services.

How-ever i would like to tell you that DIEN material type you also can use it for procurement purposes and there is no bar for it and infact I have used this material tyep for Procurement in one of my projects. The purpose is the comfort level with both the cases. which-ever you find more closer and easier to hanlde do follow accordingly.

Dear,

Manish has given good explanation, service material with M.type will be used by SD people to sell some services, where you can do delivery followed by billing. we are also using service material to sell the service to our customer and for procurement service we are using service master..

Hi,

Service materials the materials which are actually services like calibration, testings etc.

Actually we are procuring a service and not any physical material.

You can refer the standard material type DIEN for the same.

We can definitely create BOM for service material.

Pl. create a DIEN material with item category group maintained as LEIS.

You can carry out regular procurement cycle for service materials in the same way like other stock materials.

Generally service material DIEN type is used to procure internal services,if you procuring external you are maintining direct from text ,if procuring internal fisrst you have master data ,thats the reason DIEN is used and also we can use some other uses also,i Know this point of view
