SAP ECC6.0 SR2 on Redhat Linux 5.1

Dear all,

I m trying to install SAP ECC6.0 SR2 on Redhat Linux 5.1 X86_64 with Oracle 10.2.0.4 and patched sucessfully.

Now i continued the sap installation and getting stuck on phase 12 with error, where it creates database

xclock it diplay clock also

but when i start ./sapinst its not starting simply stuck on

Try to open a second window, set the same parameters and execute "./startinstgui.sh".

And:

you are using a 32bit Sun JDK on a 64bit platform --> not supported. You have to use the 64bit IBM JDK.

Note 1172419 - Linux: Supported Java versions on the x86_64 platform

Dear it java was working fine actually i was on 12th step, at ur request i run ./startInstGui.sh Now the result is as following, Again need help

"was working" is not the same as "supported". If you also install a Portal or AS-Java your installation will fail with the installed Java version.

Redhat has a cron job that cleans the /tmp directory cyclically as well as after a reboot. If you rebooted the machine or did not use the files residing in /tmp there are now files missing.

As in the installation guide it's suggested to use an installation directory instead instead of using /tmp

mkdir /install
cd /install
<full-path-to-sapinst>

This avoid that files are removed when they are still necessary.

you don't need to change anything.

The system will extract sapinst, puts some files in /tmp and all the other installation files in /install. If you now reboot the machine, the system will simply extract the binary files again in /tmp but the current state of the installation is left intact as opposed to when you put everything in /tmp.

So simply try it

I can't help you remotely but just "guess" what can be wrong.

If sapinst was started before in the same manner it should now also start. You have to make sure you DISPLAY variable is correctly set.

Markus i think i need to install from scratch with IBM JDK for 64 bit & then talk with u, but one thing please tell me how to off cron job for cleaning /tmp directory with detail,

Hi,

make one directory to any location and move all the stuff (date) from /tmp to newly created directory.

Now try to run the setup again. also before that check the xclock to ensure gui is working fine.

ok i installed IBM JDK in Redhat Linux 5.1 X86_64 from scratch, and it installed in /opt after setting the parameters & Exports and when i go to run ./sapinst it starts and stuck on gui starting

please post installation logs to your last post, because just saying "it starts and stuck on gui starting" isn't much of help to us...

What do you get when you do ls -altr /usr/bin/java? Likely it points to /etc/alternatives/java, which in return points to the wrong java executable if I recall correctly. You should change the symbolic link "/etc/alternatives/java"to the java binary from the IBM SDK. After that, make sure that file "/etc/hosts" looks like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost

192.168.0.1 yourserver.yourdomain.com yourserver

(make sure you use the right hostname(s) and ipaddresses)

- make sure hostname -s shows short hostname, and hostname -f full hostname.

- make sure $SAPINST_JRE_HOME or $JAVA_HOME is set to the IBM folder containing the subdir with the java executable.

If you want other users to start X applications, type "xhost +" before installing sapinst.

Did you install the packages mentioned in note 1048303 ? If I recall correctly, some of them are neccesary to install the IBM java SDK .rpm. I found it easier to just unpack the SDK .tar.gz.

Then you should be good to go....

Was this error proced by catproc.sql? If yes, you can try

- stop sapinst

- open keydb.xml in the installation directory

- search for "ERROR" (next to a "CDATA")

- replace the ERROR with OK

- save

- restart sapinst with "continue old installation"
