Hi YS

MRP Group: Groups certain materials together from the MRP point of view to allocate special control parameters for planning like strategy group, the planning horizon and the creation indicator for the planning run.

We create MRP group in OPPR and maintain Parameters like Strategy Group, Consumption Parameters, Planning Time Fence, Planning Horizon etc.

This can used used to make easy of Planning data maintenance for materials by simply assigning MRP Group in MRP-1 view other wise u have to make so many settings in MRP views

MRP Area: Represents an organizational unit for which MRP can be carried out separately.U can include one or several storage locations of a plant or a subcontractor.

So we can carry out MRP specifically for each area say for Spare parts or any Production line, sub-contracting

Remarks: As such we can not compare because both having different functionality. We can use both depends on the req. However for your case its difficult to say but MRP area can help in Planning certain comp separately if needed..

Hi All,

For you case :

You can maintain the MRP group for your finish product. But not for all the components of the final products also. because MRP group is based on the Material Type

even the Mrp area you cannot used.

Better use the normal MRP run per the plant parameters.

1. Main Difference b/w MRP group and MRP area :

MRP group :

1. The MRP group is an organizational object that can be used to allocate special control parameters for planning to a group of materials.

2. You can maintain MRP groups if planning control per plant is not precise enough for your requirements and you want to allocate certain material groups different control parameters from the plant parameters.

MRP area :

1. The MRP area represents an organizational unit which carries out materials requirements planning independently

2. An MRP area can include one or several storage locations of a plant or stock with a subcontractor

Hi,

MRP Area:

The MRP area represents an organizational unit for which material requirements planning is carried out independently

Generally 3 types of MRP area are designed.

Plant MRP Area

MRP Areas for Storage Locations

MRP Areas for Subcontractors

MRP Group:

Generally used to assign common control parameters to a group of materials to plan and organize.

Eg.. All castings are grouped as one MRP group, Similarly all Forgings, etc..

I feel, for your scenario, you can use MRP groups.

Pl. discuss with client, how presently they are monitoring their business.
