Netweaver Business Client on Mac?

Former Member

SAP has come out with yet another client and it is, of course, Windows only. I must admit, I don't understand the need for a new client, but all the screenshots I'm seeing at conferences are screenshots from the NWBC, so I'm assuming emphasis is being placed on it.

That said, has anyone attempted to install the NWBC on a Mac? In, for example, Parallels, Wine, VM Ware, or some other sort of environment? If so, was it successful?

Cheers,

David.

Hello David,

the SAP GUI for Java team is investigating in building a Java-based implementation of NWBC and is working on a prototype with promising results so far. If remaining technical challenges can be mastered and demand from the field is strong enough, this might become an official product someday.

Best regards

That's good to hear, and I would be willing to help test this functionality in the java gui, if needed.

Cheers,

David.

Hi Michael & Rolf-Martin,

Is it possible to use NWBC as a replacement of SAPGUI and get all the powerlist functionalities without using Portal. What I heard till now is that NWBC allows to reuse the portal functionalities and it comes with predefined power lists for use with Business All in One only. I have gone through lot of documentation on NWBC on SDN and SAP help.com website but could not still get an answer to my question.

What about a customer who is not using portal and only using SAPGUI. Can he use the power list without having to implement Portal or AIO. I did setup my ECC EHP4 system link to NWBC and can pretty much open my ECC transactions in NWBC (like VA01, VA02 etc.) but am not able to get the power lists. Any pointers are highly appreciated.

Great news indeed.

Any progress on the client side that makes Mac OS more on par with Windows is good to take.

I see a lot of consultants with Macs these days and well, Fusion or Parallel is their answer so far...

A native version would be good.

Hi Kapil,

Using NWBC instead of SAPGUI is not possible. I believe you need to install NWBC in addition to SAPGUI. The PowerLists depend on the level of the Enhancement Pack in ECC. EhP3 delivers more PL's than 1 or 2 and EhP4 has even more. So, depending on what EhP you are on, you may or may not find many.

NWBC depends on roles - for NWBC to work for you, you need to create a role, assign youself to it and place PL's into the role. I found plenty of documentation on how to set up PL's in SAPGUI and publish those in a role (which NWBC picks up when you login).

Yes, a customer who is not using Portal can also utilise NWBC and the PL's. As I said before, the PL's are delivered as part of an Enhancement Pack and not related to AiO. Apart from one, all other customers of us here in ANZ don't use Portal but they are starting to operate PL's via NWBC as a quick solution.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Michael, This information is really helpful. It will be really great if you can point me to few documentation on setting up PL's in NWBC.

Hi David,

I have installed NWBC on my MAC using VMWare Fusion. It runs well and I can only recommend NWBC as an alternative to SAP GUI and Portal. I am particularly impressed by the POWER List functionalities provided through each EhP.

Cheers, Michael
