Upgrade from 2005 to 2008 installed on a different server

Hi,

i.a.w. the DB Installation and Upgrade Guide for 2005 it was possible to basically detach a 2000 database and attach it to a freshly installed 2005 on a different server. Then run some magic tools - and done. I was looking for the same feature for 2008 now. We want to move from 2005 on Server 2003 directly to a new 2008/2008 machine.

It should work, but SAP doesn't seem to support it, or am I misinterpreting the guide? Just asking if anyone here has done it or thought about it, I will contact my colleagues in the lab otherwise...

Best regards,

Olof

Just detach (2005) and attach (2008). The magic tool was for the schema conversion.

Indeed you had to drop those SPs, change collation, convert schema. But I think with kernel 6.20 and above temp SPs got replaced by parameterized statements (static SPs with 7.00). You still have to run MSSPROCS on your new instance. Check with Note 151603 and 610640.
