Code Groups, Codes and Selected Sets

Dear Gurus,

I have attributes for fabric, Actual Fabric Length, Actual Fabric Weight, Vendor Fabric Length, Vendor Fabric Weight, Shade Grp A, Shade Grp B, and there are fabric defects, Surface defects, Holes etc.

1. when creating code grps, codes and selected set how do i categories them for Catalog 1, 3 and 9?

2. can the defects i mention is in catalog 1 and catalog 9 both?

please explain this in a step by step process by using my example
