Hello,

We are working on BW 7.4 on Hana DB as a hot storage. and NLS (Sybase IQ 16 SP8) as a cold storage.

Some times we get an issue of IQ server hangs from BW DBA cockpit. No such cause identified ins srvlog and iqmessage log files.

Sometimes issue resolved by restarting Cockpit windows service on NLS host.

Kindly suggest some solution if someone faced this.

When you talk about cockpit , are you referring to BW DBA cockpit or IQ cockpit ?
When you say IQ server hangs - does that mean you are not able to execute any selects on the server from client tools like dbisql ?
Does it ever require IQ server restart or only Cockpit service restart ?

Answers to the above may help in figuring out whether the issue needs to be looked at from DBA cockpit side or IQ side.

Hello Harpreet,

Connectivity hangs from BW DBA cockpit to NLS (sybase IQ).

dbisql is not accessible that time. it also shows hanged.

Issue resolved mostly with restart of IQ Cockpit service, but sometimes in past we had to restart the whole machine also in situation when stop/start was not possible.

iqmsg file on IQ server was showing the queries were running during the time it was hung.

What OS is the IQ server on ?

Could it be that when this happens the host is starved on resources ? You may want to open an incident and a product support can look at the logs etc to see what is happening. If this is on unix hen you can collect 3 pstacks at 2-3 min interval at the time the issue occurs and we can take a look at it and see what the threads are upto

Hello Harpreet,

its Windows 2008 R2 OS.

Incident has already been opened, but so far no concrete answer received. As there are not clear logs , so its getting difficult to understand the root cause of the problem.

Now a days it happens once in month, after one week of restart of services/ applications.

I am now thinking if some issues with iq cockpit, because after cockpit service restart issue resolves most of the time, but I am not getting clue from any logs, traces on it. This is stopping me to understand the RCA,

Regards

Munish
