S/4 HANA 1709 : Migration from SAP CAL to On-premise

Hello Experts,

We have deployed an "SAP S/4HANA 1709 FPS01, Fully-Activated Appliance" running on the SAP CAL. I've no experience with Cloud platform.

We want to use this as appliance for our new customer implementation project.

I've two questions regarding this appliance.

1- is this appliance fully suitable for using as a 'development system' ?

2- can we move/migrate the database of S/4 HANA using export/backup to the premises of the customer when their own hardware is available (a few months later)?

Thanks in advance for your quick reply.

Kind regards,

Kasim

Hi Kasim,

technically, you could use the appliance as a development system.

However, SAP doesn't recommend this since the appliance has many settings pre-configured (incl. functions with additional license requirements, many installed language packs, etc. ) that might not be suitable in your project. And if your dev system has a different status as the downstream Q/P systems, you might open up additional error sources.

Wrt. to moving your system from CAL to OP, technically this works (e.g. DB export/import). Keep in mind that your customer needs to own an SAP CAL subscription license to do this (a partner T&D license will not suffice).

Best, Joerg
