Application Host in SAP portal Content

Hi All,

I would like to know what is "Application Host" is used for ESS portal.

http://XXX/irj/portal > System Administration > System Configuration > Portal Content > "SystemXXX" > Property Category > Show All

"Application Host" = backend ECC server, it will create session in backend ECC server (Transaction SM04) when users logon to ESS. The session will stay for 60 minutes, after users logout from ESS. It accumulate huge lots of sessions in backend.

"Application Host" = blank, it will not create session in backend ECC server (Transaction SM04) when users logon to ESS. When user run application, it will create application session only. After users logout from ESS, all session is removed from backend.

Anyone has idea on "Application Host"? If i leave it "Blank", will it cause any problem on system development (e.g. create new iview) or other backgrounf application (e.g. UWL)?
