thanx , but my query is , when produnction person cretae on maint request , he dont know exactly this is mech or elec jon, so here i can put maint workcenter. at time of identification by engg , this is mech or elec, he ll put operation work center as suugested. but here if i aalocate to manpower at separate wc mech and elec then wt is the use of main work cenetr. how it ll linked with separate wc. do i need mainatin hierarchy.........do i need to maintain toatal manpower to main wc after already i put manpower to elec and mech

Hi

This is the normal confusion it appears every where...

1 . Dont enter the main work center in the equipment.. so when they create a order, Work center field will pop-up.. since it is the mandatory field.. ok... There the maintenance team can enter the work center.

2. Create a work center for plant maintenance, u will be creating only for labour in PM.. ok.. Create two activity type ex - Electrical and Mechanical... assign the cost to the activity type and assign to cost center.. ok.. Then assign this work center to the maint work center in the equipment...in the order operation u can differentiate the mech work and electrical work using this activity type

I hope it will solve ur query...

hi, thanx , I understood.

(1)Letus say I having one diesel generator , for it what Main work center i need to mainteain (Mech or Elec.)

(2)When i ll do job on Diesel Generator, Main WC ll get copied from equipment master in PM order.

(3) So is we have to maintain any relation b/w main WC and Working Work Center.

(4)And i maintain my elec and mech cpacities in seprate W/C , is there any need to maintain separate manpower in tatal wc . how they r linked

HI

Maintain Mech work center in a diesel generator.. since mech jobs are more here... ok...

as well as.. if u get any electrical job.. u can change the work center in the order operation...

If u maintain both the work center.. there wont be any diff... only the work center in the main work center.. will get copied from functional location to equipment and to order...

If ur scenario is to get the elec and mech cost separately.. then u need to maintain two work center...here also u can maintain the cost with respective to the activity type

else... you can maintain only one work center... in that... with respective to the grade.. enter the cost in the activity type... so.. it will easy to tackle the cost..

Thanx .

But in PM order, both terms are used. At header level as well as in operation tab. but here both re same or different.

Hi

Both are mostly same but if you are doing any one of the operation under another work center then put that work center in operation tab

Maint. Work Center :- A work center that is in charge when a maintenance task is performed

Work Center :- An organizational unit that defines where and when an operation must be performed.

The work center has an available capacity. The activities performed at or by the work center are valuated by charge rates, which are determined by cost centers and activity types. Work centers can be:

Machines

People

Production lines

Groups of craftsmen

I hope you can understand.

Hi,

In PM order header, Mn Work center is used under responsibilities tab. And under operation overview, we used work center(this is primarily, the working work center..means maint work center )

To make it simple....assume Prodn dept has raised one maint issue then they will make it responsible the whole maint dept for that job(u will put this as Mn work center in header tab) And for each type of work, say one is elec job , one is mechanical, u will mention work center in each operations.

Hope it is somewhat clear.

Hi,

See the wordings from SAP help:

Work Center:

Operations are carried out at a work center. In the R/3 System work centers are business objects that can represent the following real work centers, for example:

Machines, machine groups

Production lines

Assembly work centers

Employees, groups of employees

Practically if you see, Work Centers are normally PP work centers (means machines, that actually manufactures something) AND main work centers are Maintenance Work centers responsible for maintaining those machines) So, during creation of Equipment master data, we mention which machine actually this is(in PP work center field) and who is responsible for maintaining it (in Main Work center field)

Control Key:

A key that specifies how an operation or a sub-operation is processed in functions such as orders, costing or capacity planning.

The following are examples of processing types managed by a control key for operations and sub-operations:

External processing

Completion confirmation

Printing

Scheduling

Costing

Hi

Main Work Center means maintenance work center this work center is going to perform or responsible for the maintenance activity for that equipment.

Work Center this is available in location tab in equipment master, this work center is related to Production means in which Production work center Equipment is loacated
