Hi NeelaGiri,
SAP XI is a middleware we can integrate different bussines systems we can transfer the data without intruption, in your landscap you have ECC ,SCM, ICH, BI and EP.
every day there is data transfer between ECC and BI ,SCM,,,EP..
to connect above all system you nedd one middleware, you can use SAP XI to integrate all Systems.

Hi,
basically XI / PI is the SAP recommended infrastructure to integrate various systems (SAP / NON-SAP / 3rd Party / Verdors / ...). Although you can manage connections between different SAP systems individually (RFC / ALE / Proxy / ...) this will be poit-to-point connections which make it more difficult to implement integration scenarios and it's definetely more effort - especially for maintenance and changes.
So using a Single-point-integration as XI / PI will make many things easier and will also provide a lot of options you may not or just hardly be able to implement without (as BPM, ...).
Hope this throughs some light in...
Regards,
Kai
