Hi all

Our company is planning to upgrade SCM 4.1 to SCM 7.0. Can you all advice if this can be only technical upgrade or need to reimplement again and what are things from functional side required in upgrade project, as I havent done any upgrade project so far?

You will definitely get a few authorization issues with users unable to access planning books and execute jobs or view joblogs and spool requests.

You will need to reactivate all your cubes/update rules etc.

You will need to change some macros involving disaggregation in the DP books if you decide to not use the compatibility mode(recommended to ammend your macros and use new functionality).

You might have to revisit your variants for background jobs. (Proportional factors and CVC creation jobs etc).

There might be other unexpected changes and the users might need some training in understanding the disaggregation logic which has changed in the later versions. (difference between 0 and initial etc.)

Basically, make sure you go through every macro in every book and variants for the background jobs to ensure they are all fine.

You users will lose access to create selections in the books etc. Releasing forecasts to SNP etc...so they will require some extra authorizations.

Some of the things I can think of right now. Hope this helps.

That is a pretty big leap.

1. Do you use DP? If so, get ready for BI7.0 security.

2. Do you use PPM? If so, might you get benefit by moving to PDS?

3. Is your R/3 (ERP) system staying at the same level?

Describe your installation and more information can be provided.

Hi Dave,

We are just using DP now and no SNP. What do you mean by BI 7 Security. I understand we will shifting to BI7 from Bi 3.5. My client has already upgraded their stand alone BI system to BI 7 so they might aware of BI issues I presume.

As of now we are just doing tecnical upgrade and after this succesfully completed we want to get other divisions into APO folder-. Usam had provided some valid points Thanks Usman. However can any also advice any intial things to do before upgrade and also we have some customised routines used in BI jobs - does all the previous functional modules of previous version work in new new version.

Thanks
