Should the Central Instance of BW 7.4 on Hana be in the same server group as the other App Servers?

We have a BW system close to retirement. It had multiple App servers and two nodes making up the Central Instance. In this system we will call 'Non-Hana' the two Central Instance nodes are not in a group, but the other App servers are in the group 'Bubba' (not the real name, of course). Naturally all is set up for SSO and works. I can log intoBW via SAPLogon.ini and into Analysis for Office (Excel) 2.4.x with SSO and no issues.

The problem is on our BW for Hana (BW 7.4), all servers are listed in a group 'Bubba2' (Again, not the real name). Naturally SSO works, and I can log into BW via SAPLogon.ini and get sent to different servers. But, I get an error message when trying to log into Analysis for Office (Excel).

I suspect it is because the Central Instance is in the same group as the App servers.

Can someone please tell me if I am on point, missing the point, or altogether wrong?
