Dears,

I want to know that in XI development is done in ABAP or JAVA.

We are planning to implement XI in our landscape and so thinking that should we put Abaper or Java developer for its development part.

Please confirm.

Hi Shivam,

If you are building XI Team better to have XI People with JAVA,ABAP Back Ground .

But it depends on which type of project ,normally migration projects like Webmethods,SAP BC,TIBCO to SAP XI required people who know XI with JAVA and XSLT(my prior experiece).

if you require to develop JAVA Proxies or Adapter Module you need core JAVA Developer.

If you require to develop ABAP Proxies you need ABAPER.

If it is big implementation project better to take one java guy and Abaper with XI people so that you can manage work .

cheers,

Raj

To add to what others have said, If you have scenarios that do not involve SAP systems

a pure XI guy without any knowledge of Java and ABAP can also fit the bill.

For example if a scenario is not so complex and can be handled by message mapping, there would be no coding involved at all(Assuming that there is no need for User Defined Functions)

Having said that, Pure XI guys are rare.

In general , XI developers are made out of either an ABAP guy or a Java Guy

In general , "XI developers are made out of either an ABAP guy or a Java Guy"...

I think Its wrong message to new XI aspirants.

should have little more clarity in above statement.

"Basically Learning SAP XI is quite easy to ABAPers or Java Techies". no need to have both technologies... But nobody knows, whatz your next interface/work.

Better be prepared and be equipped with latest technologies and tools in PI.

Never ever stick to one area ( like ABAP or Java), this is most advanced open standards era. for surviving in this technologies, at least you must be "Jack of All"

Hi Raj,

I think Shivam doesn't want to learn XI himself...:)

From the question, what I understand is he is trying to find who has a better chance of Converting into a XI Guy.

And moreover I said " In General"...:)

hi,

1. for XI part only java is enough

2. for the interface part done in SAP ERP (so the real hard part) you need ONLY ABAP skills

the truth is a XI developer is a combination of both ABAP and JAVA skills.

but then it depends on projects and which requires more of it.

A dream XI team would be, a XI developer with an ABAP knowledge along with an XI guy with Java knowledge.

The importance of both cannot be ignored !!!
