I have had much better java restore experience since doing both the java export from sapinst AND config export from the Config tool. And then restoring (importing) both.

Good luck and hope this helps!

Hi PJ,

As mentioned what configurations needs to be backed up in configtool.if we take cluster_data as export and import after our system copy will that be enough.

Pls suggest

Thanks

Yes, that is exactly it.

You will want to take the export of cluster_data (top level) and import back.

Best of luck!

Hi,

If you doing this from routine backup point of view for recovery of your system in case of some emergency, this is well and good enough. Because you can recover your database with the help of previous backups.

But If you are planning to move this system from one host to another, So please follow the SAP recommanded system copy method because you have Java stack also in your system and Java stack will not simply come up with restore, you have to also take the export of java from target system and restore it using sapinst tool.

Hi

Thanks alot for ur quick response.

If I want to follow SAP System copy(export/import) procedure using sapinst tool , I need to shut it down the SAP instance , which is not possible everyday.

Is there any way out to take backup of ABAP+JAVA stack to tape and restore in another machine using last sucessfull backup using backup/restore procedure(Database Manager).

How can I take backup of ABAP+JAVA stack without shuting down the SAP Instance by using any sap standard tools (sapinst) and can be used to restore in any new machine in case of emergency?

ThankU

Hi ,

for the Java Export it shall take hardly 15 or 20 min max.

For the Zero data loss you can take the Java export just after when you have the offline backup.

you can have weekend for the offline backup and Java export.

thanks

Hi,

For restoring abap system it will not ask any java files. But for a complete recovery of java stack you need the file system recovery.
