Hi Doron,

The first thing you need to do is create a connection to the database. This is done in the Designer tool. When you click new in Designer it will display a wizard and you can set it up as part of this, or alternatively you can use the tools connections. For SQL Server the connection can be created using ODBC drivers or direct to SQL Server. If ODBC then you will need to have configured the DataSource.

Having created the connection, you can use it by setting it in the universe parameters.

To see a list of tables available simply right click the data view panel (main panel on the right)

Hi Alan,

Thanks a lot for assisting me.

I am not aware of a "Designer tool", but i guess that it is not in the CMC since i can not see it....

Can you please tell me where it is?

Hi Doron,

The designer tool is a windows gui for creating Universes. It is available as part of the client tools installation or on the Business Objects server (assuming you installed the client tools there). After you have installed the client tools you will see it on your start bar under the Business Objects Menu.

Hi,

It just not getting easier

Now, when i am trying to logon to the Designer tool, i get the "famous" usr0013 error.

I tried to find some discussions about it in the net (example - http://www.forumtopics.com/busobj/viewtopic.php?t=69411) but still i can not solve the problem.

Any idea?

The connection between your PC and the Server is the issue. I would start by trying to ping the machine, to see if there is connectiviy. There may also be a firewall between you and the server, so I would talk to your network people. You can also try connecting using the BO servers IP address rather than its name as there might be a DNS clash.

I am on the server where the BO is installed on, so it i not the connection issue.

anyway, now there is even another issue of an error message that i get when i am trying to connect to the CMC / Infoview:

"Error: Server ILTLVH105:6400 not found or server may be down (FWM 01003) null"

Can you please assist?

Thanks,

Hi Doran,

If you cannot get onto InfoView then it is most likely your CMS server is not running. To check this go to the Central Configuration Manager (CCM) which is a client tool available in your Business Objects environment. This will tell you if the CMS is started. If you are on XIr2 it will be listed in the servers, you are on anything later it you will have to select the SIA and click the manager server.

If you are on XIr2, try to restart the CMS server directly, in XI3.X you willll need to restart the SIA server.

The most likely cause of the issue is the connection to the CMS database. If this is persisting you will see errors in the Event Viewer on the server

Hi Alan,

I really appreciate your assistance, we have no other source of assistance to solve this issue.

WeI have BO XI 3.1, and when selecting the SIA and click on the "Manage Servers" I need to login with my User and password.

When doing so, I get another error of:

"Unable to log on: Could not connect to server <servername>:6400. Please check that the server name is correct, and that the server is running."

this error is thrown for all the administrator users.

When looking at the Event Viewer of the Server just after restarting the SIA, i see the following:

1. Server Intelligence Agent is stopping.

2. Server Intelligence Agent is running.

3. Server Intelligence Agent has established a connection to CMS at iwdfvm2724.wdf.sap.corp:6400.

4. No servers were found in the CMS for this Server Intelligence Agent.

5. The CMS cluster seems to be missing the Server Intelligence objects for this Server Intelligence Agent.

I managed to login to the Universe Desinger.

So, Back to the original topic of this thread.

I am trying to create a new Universe for a SQL Server database that is located on another server in my landscape.

The problem is that i just can't find the way to connect to a remote DB.

it only shows me the local DBs in the Data Source name field.

Is there any kind to tutorials for this?

Hi,

In BOE 4.1 SP6 is possible connect Web Intelligence direct on database with feature Free-Hand SQL. Following this link with steps:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-64504

For other versions, you need build connection with tool client Information Design Tool. Following this link:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-22019

For connection remote database you need configuring ODBC driver and add ip adress ou named instance.

Verify if you machine have access and port open.

Hi,

I am having an issue with SIA and Sql Server db communication.  I have created a copy of the SQL server database on a test server and installed SAP 4.1 on the same server.  I provided the DSN connection pointing to the database located on the test server.  After installation it's saying I can't connect to he CMS.  The error says "Account Information not recognized: Could not reach CMS........(FWM 20031)".  I created another node and still not working.  I checked via CCM and SIA is running.

I think the problem seems to be, the communication between SQL server and SIA.  But I need an expert advice.

The ports are open and the firewall and the antivirus were suspended during installation.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards.

Aaron.
