How to transfer Packaging material from ERP to EWM with VLMOVE

Hi SAP Expert,

We have HUs of materials that are packed with packaging materials in HU-Managed Inventory Managed Storage location in ERP. When we performed transfer posting to transfer the HU from IM storage location to EWM storage location using VLMOVE by. An inbound delivery order (delivery type HID ) is created with one line item for the material number of the HU and the Inbound Delivery order is transferred to EWM.

After we confirmed the warehouse order in EWM, the material of the HU is transferred successfully to EWM storage location.

However, we are wondering how do we transfer the packaging material over to EWM ? Is system should generate a sub-line item for the packaging material of the HU in the same inbound delivery order during VLMOVE of transfer posting of the HU ?

Please share your thought.

Hi Ajit,

The link you pasted is for generating items for packaging materials in outbound deliveries. MicMic is asking about an inbound delivery (HID).

As far as I know, generated items for packaging materials is not supported in EWM warehouses. At least in our ERP version, it is hard-coded by SAP: if the warehouse at delivery header level is EWM managed, items for packaging materials will not be generated.

"The link you pasted is for generating items for packaging materials in outbound deliveries. MicMic is asking about an inbound delivery (HID)." -> As per my understanding, Packing in Inbound or Outbound is similar in the ERP according to layout/config/.... thatswhy paste the link.

Hi Ajit,

I'm a bit confused by your referring to note 2576380. I quote the note:

"It is possible to manually add packaging materials, but automatically generated packaging material items are NOT supported in connection with an EWM for inbound deliveries."

So it seems to reinforce my idea, that packing works differently for inbound and outbound, and that automatic generation of items for packaging materials in inbound is currently not supported.
