Is it possible to install SAP Hana Express edition system in Single-Container Mode?

Is it possible to install SAP Hana express edition as a single-container system? I need to connect to it via a 15 port, not 13. Or is it possible to obtain a full trial version of SAP Hana instead of SAP Hana express? In official web page it is offered to download express edition when I try to obtain trial SAP Hana.

No HANA Express is MDC only. This is following with SAP HANA standards where MDC is the default suggestion now and soon will be the only option offered. Your first tenant in an MDC system is still port 15.

Hi Thomas,

I has asked myself a similar question. So I see that HANA Express is supposed to be installed as MDC but SystemDB Tenant DB only with XSC content (for both database as it is auto_content) consumes approx. 10 GB memory whereas a single container HANA would only consume 2 GB with the same setup.

I'va also seen that the ACTIVE_OBJECT table in the _SYS_REPO schema consumes 1,5 GB only for the activation of the XSC content - each for SystemDB and Tenant DB. Is there any cleanup or housekeeping process?

Marcel

Thank you for the clarification, but it seems that no tenants in MDC uses port 15. I couldn't connect to it even via a terminal with such command:

hdbsql -u SYSTEM -n localhost:30315 -p Serverg0d!

but with using port 30313 connection establishes successfully.

Also the same thing is mentioned in this document on 37 page: https://hcp.sap.com/content/dam/website/saphana/en_us/Technology%20Documents/SPS09/SAP%20HANA%20SPS%...

Could you please clarify this issue?

But ACTIVE_OBJECT is a hybrid LOB table. The bulk of the data is in CDATA/BDATA columns for most records this data will exceed the memory threshold of 1000 and be stored on disk. So this ACTIVE_OBJECT table while appearing large doesn't have that big an impact on the in-memory consumption of HANA.

I can tell you that in newer SAP internal versions of HXE, we are no longer loading the auto content into the SYSTEMDB.

I do believe that the initial version of HANA Express was MDC, but only contained a System DB (hence only connectivity on 3XX13.

Hi Thomas,

is there some version overview of the HANA Express VM and binary versions? I knew already that SAP provides different version with the same HXE downloader but I have no clue whether there is a newer version oder a final version...

I'm asking due to problems with the Scriptserver after applying the HXE permanent license which obviously (in my case) doesn't allow to run a Scriptserver... see comment on blog post of Philipp at https://blogs.sap.com/2016/10/17/getting-started-predictive-sap-hana-express-edition/

Wondering whether this could be a problem of my (binary) version of SAP HANA Express..

Regards,

Marcel
