Hi,

Pl refer to SAP OSS Note 392776 - Capacity check in the Warehouse Management which describes the capacity check in warehouse management in details.

This note describes the functioning of the capacity check by means of an overview. Furthermore, it should also draw your attention to frequent misunderstandings and problem sources.

Basically a distinction is made for the capacity inspection methods between the check by quant and the check in accordance with neutral key figures.

(A) Capacity check at quant level (Inspection methods 1 - 3)

The inspection methods 1 - 3 generally take place at quant level. In other words these inspection methods can only be used to its intention in storage types in which the mixed storage is not allowed. The reason for this is that the system does not use the entire quantity on the storage bin for the

capacity check in the case of a mixed storage, but it is checked separately for every quant whether it exceeds the capacity. Several quants would be created on the bin, for example, in the case of different batches or different stock categories of the same material, and the maximum defined quantity would be allowed for every batch (or stock category).

(B) Capacity check in accordance with neutral key figures (Inspection methods 4 - 6)

These inspection methods require the definition of key figures without dimensions for capacity consumption in the material master or in the storage unit type. You must also have defined a maximum permitted capacity in the storage bin master record.

Description of the individual inspection methods

-

Inspection method 1 - check by maximum weight

The systemchecks for a putaway or for an addition to existing stock whether the weight of the quant being created on the storage bin exceeds the maximum weight specified in the storage bin master record and the putaway is terminated in this case. The maintenance of the weight data in the material master is a prerequisite. Note that each individual quant on the storage bin is allowed to reach the maximum weight in the case of a mixed storage. Thus a combination with mixed storage is not useful.

Inspection method 2 - check based on palletization according to SUT 1

The maintenance of the palletization data in the Warehouse Management view of the material master is a prerequisite for this inspection method. The quantity specified in the first line of the palletization data is allowed as a maximum for each quant, independent of the used storage unit type. The other palletization data is not taken into account. The mixed storage should also not be allowed in the storage type for this inspection method since it may otherwise be allowed for each quant to reach the maximum

quantity.

Inspection method 3 - check based on maximum quantity per bin in the storage type

You can maintain a maximum quantity per storage bin in the storage type data of the material master. For inspection method 3, the Quants of the corresponding material are putaway to a maximum of this quantity. For the above-mentioned reasons, it also applies here that the mixed storage should not be allowed.

Inspection method 4 - check in accordance with material key figure

You can define a neutral capacity consumption relating to a unit of measure in the Warehouse Management view of the material master. You must then have defined a total capacity (also neutral) in the storage bin master data. For the putaway on a storage bin, the remaining capacity of the storage bin is calculated from the total capacity minus the capacity of the putaway materials and saved in the storage bin master record. In the case of other putaways and additions to existing stock, this remaining capacity is used to check whether the putaway is allowed on this bin. This inspection method is also suitable for storage types with mixed storage.

Inspection method 5 - check in accordance with SUT key figure

When you define the storage unit types, you can define a capacity consumption for each storage unit type. During putaway, the system then determines from the total capacity or the remaining capacity of the bin and from the capacity of the storage unit whether a putaway is possible. This inspection method is only useful if several storage units are allowed for each bin. Never use the inspection method 5 in conjunction with the putaway strategy I (addition to existing stock). An addition to existing stock

would not generate a new storage unit, but add to an existing storage unit. The capacity consumption would not change in this case.

Inspection method 6 - checks in accordance with material key figures and SUT

This inspection method represents a combination of the inspection methods 4 and 5. The capacity data should be maintained in both the material master and the storage unit type. If a storage unit is putaway on a bin, both the storage unit and the material stored on it consume capacity. The SUT check should be activated in the storage type for this inspection method or the Storage Unit Management for the storage type should be active. For the For the capacity checks, the remaining capacities or the used weight in the storage bin master data are updated with every putaway or picking. If you change the inspection method in the current operations or you change capacity or weight data of materials or storage unit types, you then need to make a comparison of the data. You can make this comparison with report RLS10200.

Hope this helps....
