I’ve been asked to integrate our holiday program in PowerBuilder 11.2 which is stored in an SQL Database with an outlook calendar, so that all holidays show in outlook etc

Has anyone any experience in this and if so could you help point me in the right direction?

We are doing this in two ways. The first is using OLE to control Outlook. Some examples of code can be found here:

We have also built a .NET dll with Visyual Studio compiled as a COM object so we can write C# interop code to acess Outlook programatically. There are lots of examples of access calendar information using C#. This one is trickier to setup, but once you have a working dll it is very useful for all kinds of things (working with Outlook, Word, Excel, SMTP, SharePoint and more).
