Displaying ALL SAP error messages as popup box rather that status line.

According to our super users the SAP error messages used to display in pop-up boxes rather than on the bottom line as they do now. I assume the user means on previous versions of SAP.

Is there a global easy setting to re-instate this does anyone know. That is, rather than have the Error (Type 'E') message appear on the bottom of the screen it should be displayed as a pop-up box?.
