Failed to load database information. When previewing report in CMC

Former Member

I attempting to load reports that are from our accounting program. The account program uses a ProvideX driver and every report I add to the CMC displays the same results

Unable to retrieve Object.

Failed to load database information. File xxxxxxxxx.rpt

When I am listing my connection source for the report I have the following selected:

Use custom database logon information specified here

For the driver I am listing

MAS 90 4.0 ODBC Driver

Server = SOTAMAS90

DATABASE= ABC

USER= bmb

Password= password

If I have any other settings or if I just choose standard ODBC I get the following results

Unable to retrieve Object.

The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect.

I can view reports fine from my Access Database but the SOTASMAS90 is causing problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Brian

MAS90 is an OEM partner of ours, please log your issues with them. If they can't figure it out they'll log a case with us to help debug the issue.

Hi,

what kind of host OS do you use for your BOBJ server?

I am running Server 2000 SP4

Crystal Enterprise Server 10.0

Hi Brian,

did you setup the ODBC connection (should use the same name as on your client where the CR Designer is installed on) also on your BOBJ server?

Yes, the ODBC is setup.

I can run reports manually using Crystal Reports designer from the BOBJ server. It just seems like the CMC isn't passing the credentials through the report.

Hi Brian,

can you please try to enter the DSN name in the Server field and leave the Database field empty in the custom database information of your report?

Sorry I didn't explain that very well.

SOTAMAS90 is the DSN name but the driver type is a MAS 90 4.0 ODBC Driver, it's by ProvideX. It isn't listed as a choice in the CMC so I specified it as the custom driver.

ABC is just one of the companies in the actual database. I probably have about 7 other companies that can be accssed by the SOTAMAS90 DSN.

I have SOTAMAS90 as the server

my database is ABC, if I take this out I still still get:

Unable to retrieve Object.

Failed to load database information. File 45c5ab351d7334.rpt.

Hi Brian,

what is exactly the text you type in in the "Custom driver" field? Normally I would choose the generic ODBC connection crdb_odbc and point at the DSN defined for your connection. This way your ProvideX driver will be implicitely (ie. from your OS) used to access the database.

Custom driver: crdb_odbc

Server: SOTAMAS90

Database: ABC

User: <your user name>

Password: <your password>

Or am I missing something here?

I tried using the standard ODBC connection and I tried placing MAS 90 4.0 ODBC Driver in the custom driver.

If I go to my ODBC connections in my Administrative tools and select Add driver, the driver name that displays is MAS 90 4.0 ODBC Driver. So I was thinking that the CMC would be able to determine the driver if I used the same naming convention that was used by Windows.

I have some screenshots that I uploaded if you want to take a look. I figure this should just work.

Shows when I have selected the standard ODBC

Shows when I specify a custom driver

Displays the drivers I am able to choose from within CMC

If I were to create a new ODBC connection in Windows

Thanks helping me with this. I appreciate it!

Hi Brian,

typing the name of the driver will not help. You should use the ODBC driver for CR (either select ODBC in the drop down list or type in crdb_odbc in the custom driver field). Your setup should look like this:

Select Database Driver:ODBC

Server: SOTAMAS90

Database: ABC

User: bmb

Password: ****

Could you give it a try and see if it works?

When you built the report in CR Designer I guess that you created the connection as ODBC. RIght?

The CR server just uses its own ODBC driver to access the DSN you type in the "Server" field. The request is the forwarded from the underlying OS to the driver, which was used to create the DSN itself (in your case the MAS 90 4.0 ODBC Driver).

Yes that is correct. When I created the report I did choose ODBC, which I then specified the DSN as SOTAMAS90.

when i used your settings I now get the following:

Unable to retrieve Object.

The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect.

My login credentials are correct though, I tested the DSN with the same login information and the test is successful.

Hi Brian,

which option is selected

in the Database Configuration Panel under the Section When viewing report ?

Regards,

Stratos

PS: Is there a way to predefine the database (ABC) inside your DSN?

I do not see the section available, is this in the CMC?

in the Database Configuration Panel under the Section When viewing report

I am able to define a user login and company code on the DSN but that doesn't work either, I still get the same results.

Hi,

please look for this section in the properties of your report under "Database Configuration" in the CMC. Not sure if this is also valid for your version though, but just look at the bottom of the database configuration panel.

In order to see if the problem has to do with the specific driver, I would recommend to create a CR report on a simple ODBC source (like an Excel file), create a copy of the source with another name on your server and try to override the database configuration setting in the CMC in order to get the data from the renamed source. Can you consider testing this?
