How to organize Data Objects and other Objects in SWCV

Former Member

Hi,

I am looking for Best Practices on how to organize data objects in SWCV as well as other objects such as a Distribution Rules.

We are planning to develop three occasionally connected applications with NW Mobile 7.1 this year and maybe additional one the following year. We will create multiple Standard Data Objects (e.g. Plant, Company Code, Reservations, ...) which are shared in the first set of transactions and in the future transactions.

I have heard before to separate out Standard Data Objects from Distribution Models and have two different SWCV.

Should I have a) one SWCV for all current and future Standard Data Objects and one for the distribution rtules or b) should I separate out common data objects into one SWCV, and all transaction-specific data object each into separate SWCV?

Just wondering if there are any best practices available for this so that I won't run into problems in the future when we want to add more transactions/data objects?

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks,

W. Berger

It is better to use one SWCV for all data objects and one SWCV for Distribution models.

If the data objects which you will be creating in future are going to be used by SWCV which contains DM's then use only one SWCV for all data objects (current & future data objects).

Otherwise, use different SWCV's for current data objects and objects which are going to be created in future.

Hi Siva,

Can you please let me know how to create seperate DM SWCV for the Dataobjects SWCV..I have created one SWCV for Data Object and another one for DM. When i try to create DM in DM SWCV it gives a message DM SWCV cannot be created? Can you please let me know?

Thanks in advance!!

I assume the following:

SWCV1 contains DO1 and created DM1 also for DO1.

SWCV2 was created and inherited SWCV1 in uses tab of SWCV2.

Did you check inherit DM check box? If yes, you can't create new DM here.

Let me know exact structure of your SWCV's.

Hi Siva,

Thanks for quick reply!!

I have created say SWCV1 for Dataobjects.

Now i want to create seperate SWCV2 for defining distribution model.

How i should proceed..I cannot see the uses option while creating new SWCV2 ( Only option i see is 'backward compatibility checkbox : uses NW04/NW04s MI Application')

where to check the following which you have mentioned?

SWCV2 was created and inherited SWCV1 in uses tab of SWCV2.

Thanks in advance!!

Create SWCV2 and save it.

Then goto SDOE_WB and double click on SWCV.

Now you can see uses tab and goto change mode and select only Import DO option and save it.

Now you can create DM's for the inherited DO's

Hi Siva,

Sorry i am able to see it now.I can see the uses option. There are several checkboxes like 'Inherit Data Object' and 'inherit DM'.

We want to add more data objects in future and distribution model also. Shall i check those boxes? whats the best approach!

Thanks and Regards

If you select Inherit DO then you can create DM's for all the DO's which are defined in SWCV1.

If you select Inherit DM option, then you can create DM's only for those objects which were not participated in any of the DM's which are created in SWCV1. If SWCV1 doesn't contain any DM's then you can create DM's for all DO's.

So, only check Inherit DO option for SWCV2 and don't create any DM's in SWCV1.
