All,
The following phase " SHADOW_IMPORT_INC " takes very long time on our system. We tested EHP4 in our test box and the same phase took only 4 Hrs now it is taking more than 8 Hrs.
Log files show it is upating databases. but it is very very slow.
We use lateste R3trans and TP.
Any idea ?
Thanks!
Hi Markus,
I am doing EHP4 installation on ECC6. I am in the phase SHADOW_IMPORT_INC. It has been 48 hrs of now and still its running on the same phase. Archive log is getting loaded, log are created in the installation directory. But I am worried as its running for two days now. I have selected 6 R3 trans process & 4 batch process in my manual selection of parameter. Please suggest me what should I do?
I am running this installation on Windows 2003 (64 bit) INTEL XEON 3.33GHZ. I have 8Gb Ram.I have to handover the system to the client by Thursday. Please advice..

You can't do much...

Depending on the size of the system and the database configuration and the speed of the underlying I/O system (most significant) this phase can take pretty much time. On my system it took 46 hours (2 CPUs Itanium-2).

Hi Markus,
Could you please give an idea how we can chage R3trans processes in EHP4 upgrade because we are not getting any option to change R3trans processes ?
I used this option while I was during upgrade from 4.7 to ECC 6.0. But I am not getting same in EHP4.
Thanks
Sunny

Hi,
I am in the middle of ehp4, and found the same issue - long run time. I had tried the manual setting of more processes and another installation with high resource with no archive, as observed both options give me the same: most of the time it only utilize 1 tp / R3trans.
Question from me:
1. how to avoid re-extracting SP by utilizing the /EHPI/abap dir from previous installation?
2. can we utilize the xml file from previous installation to skip mopz selecting the SP again?
Thanks

Yes, you may see only one R3trans - but the shadow instance will use more than one batch process then (depending on how you configured it).
Did you try to evaluate which phase is running too long - in your opinion? Check the UPGEVAL.XML in the hdtocs subdirectory...

You can't.

If you selected the second system - yes. If no, then you need to repeat the MOPZ.

This is not uncommon.
I've done quite a a few EHP4 installations as of now (on different OS'se and databases) and this phase is taking between 7 and 16 hours.
The speed of that phase is HIGHLY dependent of the number of R3trans processes you entered during the PREPARE. If your database and machine can handle it I'd increase them up to 8 or more which is significantly reduce time because more packages can be imported in parallel.

..open an Oss message and send it to SAP.
In parallel you could also contact the EHP Technology Backoffice by sending a mail to: EHP-TECH(at)sap.com
