Service Pack Upgrade.

Hi,

In our assignment we are planning to upgrade the service packs as per the levels mentioned below.

Currently we are in SAP R/3 4.6C, we are upgrading these service packs to make the system compatible for integration with SAP GTS.

CURRENT REQUIRED

SAP_BASIS 45 54

SAP_ABA 45 54

SAP_APPL 45 50.

I would like to know what kind of Impact analysis has to be made before updating the service packs in the existing system as the present system has numerous Z functionalities.

What kind of testing has to be carried out after updation and also migration strategy from DEV to QA to PRD.

Regards,

Murali Mani.

Hi,

Before updating the service packs find your Current SPAM Update and Support Package Level

Find the Most Current SAP SPAM Update

Download SPAM\SAINT Updates from http:
service.sap.com\patches.

Before applying any support packages to your SAP system, release all u201Crepairu201D change requests to prevent error messages due to locked resources. Repairs are usually advanced corrections obtained from SAP Notes that are eventually accumulated into support packages. So the same objects u201Crepairedu201D in the advanced corrections will be u201Crepairedu201D during the application of the support

package. Releasing the repair change requests allows the support package to overlay the temporary advanced correction u201Cfixu201D.

Before you apply the most current SPAM\SAINT, please pull the OSS Note 782140

Once you have loaded the latest support packages into your support Package manager buffer, you need to apply the packages to your SAP system.

Hi,

Thank you very much for the reply.

The current level of SPAM/SAINT is 44 and we are updating to 49 which is latest as of now.

Apart from the pack upgrading procedure, what are the steps or necessary actions to be take from functional and ABAP side before applying the patch.

After applying the patch what kind of testing is required to ensure the functionality.

In simple an Impact analysis of what would be the effect of applying the support packs.

Hi

That means that you are already updating your SPAM/SAINT to its current Support Package Level

Consult the Basis guys instead of the functional or ABAP guys. For ABAP patches take a full database backup. For Kernel upgrades make a backup of the folder usr/sap/sys/exe.

When you upgrade the patch it will not effect any zprograms & ztables.

After upgrade run the tcode sgen.
