What is the significance of classification view in material master.

What is product hierarchy and what is the significance of that in material master.

Provide some inputs on the above.

Classification view is used to classify the materials in terms of batches (where shelf life determination matters), Configurable materials (where material varies based on certain parameters defined), variants of material etc.

The product hierarchy groups materials by combining different characteristics. Each characteristic is represented by a specific product hierarchy level.

Classification view is used to maintain the attributes of the item like colour, size etc under one mateial code only.

Product hierarchy is also used to specify the product exactly.

for example, you can maintain product hierarchy for a Refrigerator like REF DCR 190

Where DCR is direct cool and 190 is 190 Litre.

Thus, product hierarchy field can be used to specify the product exactly.

Also this field can be used significantly in BW & Portal system. By fetching this field various reports in these systems can be developed
