Forecasting

Hi Gurus,

I need to present the functionalities of forecasting. I dont know where to start. I've been reading the forecasting and SOP topics in saphelp, unfortunately, I still have no idea on how to configure it in SAP. Do you have any config guide or notes that I can use to configure it in SAP? Also, if you have a list of functionalities of forecasting? The reports that are available in SAP for forecasting. All of your comments and notes will be greatly appreciated.

Btw, ill be working on SAP 4.0b version.

Regards,

Paul

Hi John,

SOP is part of PP module and not SD.

A forecasting and planning tool for setting targets for sales, production, and other supply chains based on historical, current, or estimated data.

Search the Forum and you will get lots of config docs.

Thanks,

SOP is not SD? but SD consultant is the one that configures the information structures right?

Hi John,

You are right that Info structure in SOP is defined by SD consultant on sales side. What i was meant is that it is basically a part of PP. Anyways, for your reference i got this in forum

For SOP there are two types

1. Standard SOP : this the standard SOP configured by SAP consider the Level by Level planning and planning done for product group .

2. Flexible planning SOP: this option is given, so that Rough planning/SOP planning can be done as per the client requirement.e.g planning structure can be sales orgn., distribution channel, division, plant, material

For configuring the flexible planning SOP follow steps

1. Define info structure in IMG

where u define the characteristic and Key field

2. Set parameters for info structures and key figures

Sales & Operations Planning >Master Data>Set parameters for info structures and key figures

where u define Planning method

  • Consistent planning

  • Level-by-level planning

  • Delta planning

and aggregation type

1. Average calculated

2. Total created

3. No aggregation

3. create Planning type with reference to info structure

Thanks.

hello, john.

you are somehow correct. however, much of the settings and transactions are on PP side. sometimes, the responsibility for forecasting is assigned to someone close to the MRP controller.

SD's major contribution is to provide historical data on which forecasting (for demand projection) is based. SD further supports SOP by identifying the correct MRP strategy/group/type and Availability check type that would support forecasting.

however, how much SD makes a contribution depends on the specific scenario. maybe you could share some more info?

regards.
