Technically Incorrect Answers

I noticed atleast one case where a technically incorrect answer has been given i.e the OP has been advised to play around with SAP Standard objects in the SAP namespace. I am sure, many of these are getting rewarded and worse, probably getting implemented somewhere.

I am not sure what exactly can be done for this - others can jump in and update the post with warnings, I suppose. Do these things get spotted by the SAP i.e SAP AG experts who also are part of these forums?

I am not even sure whether this is the right forum for above rant, so apologies if this is not.

Thanks and Regards

What did you do about it yourself? I tend to post warnings or corrections in the SAP Netweaver Security forum, or sometimes even a blunt "This is an incorrect answer".

Why rely on others? I think we should keep the forums clean together.

Hi Jurjen,

I include myself among the "others who can jump in and post warnings".

I suppose I just wanted to air my views on this at the same time.

If it's technically incorrect - hit the abuse button. Those of us who are expert in the particular area can then react. Even before I was a moderator, I'd respond with WRONG

But with the points awarded - it's galling, I know - but it's up to the individual. No matter how wrong headed, stupid, moronic, stubborn, ignorant they may be.

I inadvertantly set this up as a question, I am marking this as answered and also awarding some points randomly to first few respondents.

The problem is of course, that there are different degrees of "technically incorrect" answers. In many cases it's difficult to draw a line between wrong and inadvisable.

It's an irregular verb.

I do something clever

You do something inadvistable

That is what moderators are for, and many responsible (and knowledgable) community members also jump in as you have already stated.

I don't work for SAP, but have an agreement with the active SAP folks in my forum area that if I spot something completely off the mark or wild speculation which is dangerous information, then I alert them and usually a little flaming fiasco erupts

But regarding the ponits for such answers, it still remains the OP's responsibility and personally I avoid interfering with that. I would even consider it to be usefull information to see how deep the stupidity goes or how shallow resisting temptation to take short-cuts is.

My 2 cents,

Julius

I think this is a very good point, but I don't know what can be done about it other than posting a new comment with your concerns. This is done quite often in ABAP Performance and Tuning forum.
