Symbols in RDI Spools

We use a third party software StreamServe for printing Invoices etc. The input to StreamServe is through RDI (Raw Data Interface) spools from SAP R/3 which are then processed by StreamServe and prints issued.

There is a requirement to print currency symbols like $ (which is included in the set of displayable characters in SAP) and u20AC (which is in the set of non-displayable characters in SAP) in StreamServe. When these symbols are entered in SAP documents (like say process orders) and print issued, the RDI Spool doesnt capture them (there is no $ or u20AC in the spool..!!!). Hence, StreamServe is not able to print them as well.

However, if the long text is directly printed from SAP to the printer (without StreamServe in the picture, StreamServe comes into picture only when the whole document is printed), the symbols are printed (and of course are visible in the spool as well).

We want to know if RDI Spools are capable of handling symbols. If anyone has inputs on the capability of RDI Spools to print symbols, kindly share them with us.

If it is something to do with the device type in SAP , request you to please let us know such device types in the SAP space.

Many thanks in anticipation,

Nike S
