How to install SAP ECC 6 NONUNICODE

Former Member

Hi all!

I've a little question - in the past during installtion you could decide whether you install unicode or non unicode.

Now it is not possible to uncheck this - so we have to install in unicode.

Later we have to to a system copy but the source is non unicode and it is essential we don't want to have unicode because it is a single code page also there no reason to use unicode.

Problem is the target is preinstalled on unicode what is to do if the source is copied (the source is nonunicode)? I think the main problem is the sap kernel - it will be also copied from the source system.

The operating system is AIX 5.3 and the database is oracle 10.2.0.2.

Can somebody advise me?

Thank you very mutch!

Best regards

Hi all!

Thank you for the questions.

Its no problem to install ECC6 SR3 as a non unicode system.

Install it as unicode - after this you copy the source database (nonunicode).

Change the kernel and change the profiles.

This should work!

Remark - we are using AIX with ORACLE.

Hi Thomas,

I changed the UC kernal to NUC kernal and made changes to the default profile and changed uc to nuc there as well. but after doing this, the SAP will not come up.

Let me know if there is something that I have missed.

Thanks,

Is it same for SR1, as I have used the SR1 in my scenario.

Hi Sumit,

it is not possible to install new systems on Non-Unicode and the described workaround will not work at all ! Please install all new systems on Unicode.

Can you say version of your SAP Application ?

P.S.

I'm find answer from your question is ECC 6.0

We install yesterday nonunicode ECC 6.0 without any problem ....

Install SR2(in this release you can uncheck it) and after doing homogeneous sytem copy.

P.P.S. sorry for many changes, but if you want do homogeneous system copy, you can do it with nonunicode

option (you can uncheck this flag) for this you need use the :

Start sapinst --> SAP ERP 6.0 Support Release 3 --> Software Life-Cycle Options --> System Copy -->

DB (Oracle for example) -> Target System Installation --> (example) Central System --> Based on AS ABAP

--> and start it .

Please read for this the system copy huide, you need do some steps on source system to.

Hello

I suggest to use se original software cd's to do the system copy (if they are available)

why are you using a different set?

During the system copy only DB is copied not the kernel... you can do a Homogeneous system copy without any issues.

Hi Juan!

Thats right but the target sap system (specially the kernel) is unicode. So the question is what do I have to do on the target system to use the non unicode database.

At first i think i have to change the kernel to non unicode isn't it but what else? Is there something in the profiles, enviroment of <sid>adm or login profiles of aix for user <sid>adm.

Hi Thomas,

I think a system copy from Unicode to non-unicode is not supported. though not sure completely.

thats because database contents would be different in unicode /non-unicode.

however if you can export the database from Source (non-unicode) then import should be possible in target system. the installation process should copy from teh non-unicode kernel dvd which you would specify during system copy.

Debasis.

As far as I remember Homogeneous system copy gives you an option to to a simultaneous unicode conversion.

Read the guide available at SAP Marketplace.
