Material exclusion in delivery document

Hello. I have a requirement where we want to use material exclusion. However, when the order is created we do not know what the material is (this can depend on what materials are available at the time of the picking). We will use a generic material number and on the delivery we will pick materials as sub-items with reference to the material we ordered in the sales order.

How can I use exclusion in the delivery document?

If you create delivery with reference to sale order, it is not possible. On the other hand, if you create delivery without referencing a sale order, then you can assign the procedure to your delivery type DL. Of course, you can achieve the requirement by customization

When looking at a guide in the SAP help portal I found the following quote that made me believe that it should be possible:

Material listing and exclusion in deliveries are dependent upon the document type of the underlying sales documents. If material listing and exclusion are activated in Customizing for the respective sales document type, they will also be carried out for newly entered items in deliveries that have been created from sales documents.

As I interpret it, I should be able to add an item directly to a delivery (made from a sales order), it should then look if an exclusion rule is attached to the underlying document type (for the SO) and then make exclusion. Am I interpreting this incorrectly?

Hello Erik,

For newly added items in Delivery it would work. But what you would do to the item that is copied from Sales Order?

Delete the line?

Thanks

No, I do not need to delete it. I will transfer it as not relevant for picking and pricing. So I will keep there as a top level item. I too assumed this would work. Especially regarding the link I provided in the comment to G Lakshmipathi, however, this does not seem to work. The exclusion works for the same material if I enter it directly in the sales order.
