Several question on EhP

Former Member

Hello,

Have several questions on including EHP during the upgrade. We have done several benchmarks on our prodcopy system from 46C to ERP 6.0 using SR3, without EhP. We have applied EhP3 using SAINT in the sandbox. For our go-live, we are only doing technical upgrade, but client is requesting to include EhP.

(1) Has anyone measured the additional downtime if you include EhPX during the ERP upgrade?

(2) Do we need to order latest CDs for SR3 to be able to include EHPx during the upgrade, or having the xml file sufficient? I've seen a thread suggesting this, but what is the reason?

(3) Activation of EhP is irreversible, what is the best way that no one can accidentally activate it. I know transaction SFW5 can be locked, but at the same time can easily be unlocked.

(4) Since our go-live is pure technical upgrade, it is worth including EhP during the ERP upgrade or do it later when they are ready to use it? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks,

Terry

Hello Terry,

(1) Has anyone measured the additional downtime if you include EhPX during the ERP upgrade?

We did the upgrade of with and without EhP Stack 03, but the database size was different. I would say it might be 3 to 5 Hours more (not 100% sure).

(2) Do we need to order latest CDs for SR3 to be able to include EHPx during the upgrade, or having the xml file sufficient? I've seen a thread suggesting this, but what is the reason?

a. You do not latest CD for ECC SR3. All you have to do download latest EHP from SMP or obtain EhP CD (which will be EhP1,EhP2 or EhP3).

b. Important point is to use latest SAPup when you are including the EHp, becuase SAPup recognizes EHp queue only after certain version which i beleive is from 14 or so.

c. XML file is required also you need above point a and b.

(3) Activation of EhP is irreversible, what is the best way that no one can accidentally activate it. I know transaction SFW5 can be locked, but at the same time can easily be unlocked.

This is pure security stuff, you can just restrict access to TCODE SFW5 only to responsible persons.

(4) Since our go-live is pure technical upgrade, it is worth including EhP during the ERP upgrade or do it later when they are ready to use it? What are the pros and cons?

This is business decision to utilize new functionality. From technical perspective YES it is really beneficial to include EhP in your upgrade as

a. You upgrade system Ehp along with upgrade with minimum effort.

b. you do not have to go through one more process of upgrade/patching , which will involve both technical and functional team validation. It will save lot of time and budget from project team perspective.

Hi Praveen,

Thank you for your reply/advice. I will pass this along to our team. A colleague is wokring on EhP and have question regarding the XML.

- how is the XML generated? Is it after downloading via Solution Manager?

- When downloading from SM, should we use the (a) 46C system as source or an (b) already ERP 7.0 system (without EhP). Is the generated XML the same between (a) and (b).

Hi Terry,

XML file generate through Solution Manager only.

2)When downloading from SM, should we use the (a) 46C system as source or an (b) already ERP 7.0 system (without EhP). Is the generated XML the same between (a) and (b).

You should use 46C system as source while downloading XML file.

Is it possible to do EHP3 without Solman?

Hi Gandma,

1. Generating xml from solman

My colleague says there is no button to generate the xml?

When is it generated? Do you have to do the download before SOLMAN generates the xml?

2. We want to benchmark two options

(a) include EhP into the ERp upgrade - so do we generate using the 46C as the source and download everything including ERP?

(b) apply it after the ERP upgrade - do we generate the xml using the upgraded 7.0 as the source and it will download all the EhP ONLY?

Thanks,

Terry

Hi Terry,

Sorry I was little busy

1. Generating xml from solman

The xml files will be generated in EPSinbox of your SOLAMN server, when you select the products for downloading. Please check the below documents for more information

2. We want to benchmark two options

(a) include EhP into the ERP upgrade - so do we generate using the 46C as the source and download everything including ERP?

Follow above links and xml will be generated in EPSinbox

(b) Apply it after the ERP upgrade - do we generate the xml using the upgraded 7.0 as the source and it will download all the EhP ONLY?

To my knowledge you do not need XML file, if you are applying EhP to ECC system. Ofcourse to dowland the files as per above links.

I believe you need to have SOLMAN confgiured properly, check the above links and see if you get same screens if not you may have to check your SOLMAN config.

Thanks,

Praveen
