How to retain shared memory / SAP buffer for SAP restart or server reboot

Hi,

I would like to retain the SAP buffer even after SAP is restarted or server is rebooted, so that user won't need to suffer from poor performance having SAP need to build up the buffer again. Any expert can help how this can be done ?

thanks,

Diana

Hello Diana,

You don't need to do any thing special. because, for Program buffer (PXA) which is the most critical buffer for SAP system performance, SAP takes care of this to keep the hit ratio high even after instance restarts. To do this, SAP writes names of the programs contained within the PXA during shutdown to a file. During restart, this file (PXASTAT/PXANEW in the work directory of the instance) is read and the listed programs are put into the PXA )

This has also been described in SAP Note 23642.

Debasis.

Hi Debasis,

Thanks for your reply. It's good to know that the program buffer shall be reloaded automatically after an SAP restart. I am pretty greedy, as I observe there are many other buffers, like table, nametab, CUA... buffers. Are there some trick to retain their as well ?

For those who may need to know about program buffer, further to the above information, there is another note 122370 about the new control of SAP program buffer.

We'll have to wait :

>requested SAP Note is either in reworking or is released internally only
