Migration or Deployment from one server to another server!

Hi All,

We have a new Business Objects XI R2 SP1 production server installed in a remote location, and my client wants to migrate everything from the old BO Production server to the new server. Is there any way to do? Initially I tried using Import wizard, but it couldn't recognize the port and CMS server (They have 2 different gateways, not in a same network). I tried using BIAR file but while in the creation it doesnot archived the reports and their instances with showing 0 transfered or converted. Appreciated if anyone could give solution to my problem.

Thanks,

Kalyan.

One way to do this is to physically copy the CMS DB and the FRS filestore from one server to another. But that is not a recommended approach because the BOE system can better take care of everything involved.

What exactly is the issue with Import Wizard not being able to connect? I think the IW method is the one that BO would recommend for what you are trying to do. Instead of finding alternative ways to do this, it might make more sense to try and troubleshoot that issue.

Just my $0.02!

Hi Sarang,

As I told we have a new BO server in a remote location with different gateways (we use VPN to connect to that server), so which means we cann't connect using Import Wizard to transfer the whole server information to another. You are highly appreciated if you know the solution.

you have 2 options :

1. Use Import Wizard to export your content to BIAR files. Do not use single biar file , use multiple.

If there are issues - possibly there are problems with the environment - it needs to be investigated.

2. Do a CMS DB copy and FRS copy. It works well. Some cleanup will be needed and some precautions. But it's doable.

Hi,

Could you please provide steps how to make a copy of CMS DB, i tried but can't find exact article in the site about step by step process for making a back-up of CMS DB. I know for FRS and changing there location in the servers metrics.Your help is highly appreciated.

We have a BO XI R2 server running in C:\ drive and the FRS was in E:\ drive and recently we installed a new new server. I have question that when we use Import Wizard, does the FRS folder will copy to the same E:\ drive or it will copy every thing to the C:\ FRS folder.

When we use import wizard does the users and their privileages setups will also move or we need to again re-create the users and their perivileages.

kindly please some help!

thankz,

Kalyan.

Import Wizard will contact FRS servers on the destination environment and they will place all migrated reports into FRS location used by FRS servers in the destination.

Import Wizard itself doesn't know if that's on C: or any other drive.

Import Wizard can migrate users/groups and their security between environments.

Could you tell whether users and their privelages will also export to the new server when you use import wizard.

you need to edit hosts file located in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and put there machine name and IP of both cms servers.

in following format :

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx machine_name

where xxx are the ip address.
