SolMan 7.2 - Reassign Diagnostic Agent after OS Migration

Hello everybody,

After OS migration (Win2k8 > Win2k16), I'm not able to (re)assign the Diagnostics Agent in step 4 of Managed Systems Configuration. The following error message is showing:

A Diagnostics Agent is already assigned to Host <SERVERNAME>

The DAA was installed after SAP import via SWPM and in the Agent Administration it's connected and green.

A "Check all Host Agents" in the step brings up the following error:

Diagnostics Agents must be assigned before checking Host Agents

I've searched now for days an appropriate SAP note, but couldn't find anything.

An uninstallation and installation was also not helpful.

Any idea what would help to get step 4 green again?

Thank you

Best regards,

Tobias

Hello Tobias Pätz

Did you tried to un-assign DAA by going in to manage system setup? Once you did that you will able to assign new DAA to the system. If you dont see auto assignment working you can manually search in SLD and assing it.

Hope this helps.

Hi Yogesh,

It's not possible to un-assign DAA via manage system setup, because it's greyed out.

In SLD I can see the DAA and the assignment on installed systems, I also tried deleting the DAA from LMDB and SLD, restart DAA. Again, I see it in SLD and after a few minutes also in LMDB under technical system using host. Extended SID is showing and DAA is click able.

After that, going to the manage system setup, it's still red.

Hello Tobias Pätz,

Can you please share a screenshot of it when you go to managed system setup DAA assignment screen?

Please check you followed document for more information on after installing DAA

Hello Tobias Pätz,

Thank you for the screenshots...

Are you able to un-assign agent as shown below?

Highlight the agent from the list and press un-assign button..

Thank you

Hi Yogesh,

That's the point, I can select that line, but because none agent is assigned, the "Unassgin" buttons stays grey.

I really don't know where the systems hangs. It show there is not agent assigned, if I try to search one, none will be found, if I try Auto Assign, system says it's already assigned.

Never saw something like that.

Deleting (reinstalling) agent, daa, system, from LMDB and SLD, nothing helped to get the light green on that screen.

Thank you!!

Hello Tobias Pätz,

This is perfect information...

Lets remove agent from SMD agent admin page..

Once you remove the agent from list make sure it has been removed in LMDB too including it's assignment to the managed system.

Once a new agent is there in the list we might able to assign it to a managed system

Keep me posted we can get this resolved.

PS: Remove old agent data from everywhere

Hi Yogesh,

Oh nice, if you find that perfect 🙂

Just for my understanding, with "admin page" you mean the normal Agent Administration page? If so, where can I delete the agents? There is just the availability to remove offline entries.

Thanks for your help!
Really appreciate it!

Hello Tobias Pätz,

That is correct. Admin page URL is https://host:port/smd/AgentAdmin

Please remove offline agents that should resolve issue.

Best,

Hello Yogesh,

So I need to take the agent offline, just shut it down via MMC!?

After that I'll remove the entry from the admin page and from LMDB and SLD!?

Another question, I don't get an email notification from the forum, even I have it activated..

Hello Tobias Pätz,

Yes please proceed with what you mentioned for your issue...

- Make Agent offline in MMC

- Remove from Agent admin page

- Remove from SLD

- Remove from LMDB with an agent assignment of tech. system

For email alerting please check that emails are not going to JUNK folder 🙂

Hi Yogesh,

Sorry for my delay, it was a busy week.

I need to come back after my two weeks of holiday, but after that I'll try to do these steps and hopefully come back with good news.

Thanks for your help!!!

Hi and thanks for your answer!

Yes, the Agent is green in his own MMC and on SolMan Agent Administration.

Also, the configuration looks good, but repeated the SMDScript, but with connection to MS, not directly.

Even after a fresh restart of the DAA, as always, the log file looks just nice:

Jul 30, 2018 9:01:30 AM [Thread[Connector,5,main] ] Info [ms://<FQDN>:8103/P4] Registering agent on server ...
Jul 30, 2018 9:01:30 AM [Thread[Thread-5,5,main] ] Info [AgentContext.stopApplications] Agent Applications stopped.
Jul 30, 2018 9:01:30 AM [Thread[Thread-5,5,main] ] Info [AgentContext.startApplications] Starting Agent Applications...
Jul 30, 2018 9:01:30 AM [Thread[Connector,5,main] ] Info [ms://<FQDN>:8103/P4] Registration done.
Jul 30, 2018 9:01:30 AM [Thread[Connector,5,main] ] Info [ms://<FQDN>:8103/P4] Agent ready.

So everything, from client side and from SolMan side looks good, it's just the logical assignment.

After this weekend, OS migration of two server, we now have five server they cannot assigned in the Managed System Configuration - Step 4.

Hi,

Was there any change in the hostname of the Managed System? If yes, do you still see the older host name still in the LMDB or Managed System configuration?

Sorry, didn't get an email notification ..

No, hostname, domain, ip, everything is still the same, just another OS (Win2k8 > Win2k16), newest Oracle (11>12.2) and newer kernel.

What I also tried was, deleting one DAA of a DEV system in LMDB, DAA disappeared from "Technical System Using Host", but Managed Systems Configuration stills says "it's already assigned"...

Thanks for your help!!!

In the Diagnostic Agent in the SAP MMC, expand the tree and look for the Java Process Table. Do you see the SMDAgent green?

If so, check if it is connected to the correct Solution Manager by verifying the property smd.agent.connection.url in the runtime.properties file in the location "usr\sap\<Diagnostic Agent SID>\SMDA<Instance>\SMDAgent\configuration"

If SMDagent is in Yellow or a wrong configuration is maintained in the runtime.properties, reconfigure the same using the smdsetup script.

Navigate to Location usr\sap\<Diagnostic Agent SID>\SMDA<Instance>\script --> smdsetup.bat managingconf hostname:"<Solman FQDN> port:"MS HTTP Port or P4" user:"User with SMD ADMIN Auth." pwd:"Pwd for the user"
