If you want to use product without transferring the base hierarchies from a backend system, you must execute the following activities in order to be able to create products in product maintenance at a later date.
1. You must create a hierarchy in hierarchy maintenance (transaction COMM_HIERARCHY).
2. You must assign the hierarchy to the application Product so that it is defined as a base hierarchy for products.

3. You must create at least one category in this hierarchy to which you have assigned the set types Short Texts (COMM_PR_SHTEXT) and Units of Measure (COMM_PR_UNIT).
These two set types are a prerequisite for being able to create a product in this category.
If you want to use numerical product IDs, then you must define the output format and storage format of the product ID. For more information, see the documentation Define Output Format and Storage Format of Product ID.
