Japanese characters are not displayed properly - Crystal Report XI

Hello,

We are upgrading reports from CR8 to CR11.

When I preview the CR8 report I can see the Japanese Characters (Coming from Database).

After saving the CR8 report as CR11 report, When I preview the report I cannot see the Japanese Character which I was able to see in CR8.

Why I am seeing unknown characters in CR11? When CR8 displays Japanese, then CR11 should display right?

Please help.

What character encoding are you using? Is it Unicode?

How to see that in Crystal Reports XI?

Is is possible to set the character set / encoding in Crystal Reports?

Both Crystal Reports 8 and 11 are mapped to the same database.

Database has the values in Unicode. (One sample value in db - 'æµ1ë±ïñô»ö¡ìsÄsÅÛî÷òÕÆnò¹ì┬')

Hi,

Which font do you have?

Try changing your font to Arial Unicode or to MS Gothic/MS Mincho.

You set the output character encoding on the database, and not in Crystal.

If you're seeing random characters ''æµ1ë±ïñô»ö¡ìsÄsÅÛî÷òÕÆnò¹ì┬'" and not empty boxes, then the issue is with character encoding and not the font.

Another suspect is the default printer driver. Make sure it supports Unicode.

Hi,

The report field uses MS Mincho font only.

My concern is, I am getting the Japanese character in CR 8 and not in CR 11. Same machine, Same DB and everything is same. The only difference is the version.

The same unicode is converted correctly in CR8 and not in CR11.

It is not working even when I set the CharacterSet to SJIS(Shift-Jis) in Database.

Any idea?

afaik, Unicode support started only with Cr 9. This means the text is probably not Unicode...

Ok, It may be some unknown characters.

But if it is displayed in CR8 means it should display in CR 11 also, right.

Still now, I dont have any solution for this

Are we talking, in the CR designer or in a .NET application here?

E.g.;, if it don't work in the CR desinger, it sure will not work in an app...

Did you set the database to translate output to Unicode - UTF-8?

I am talking about Crystal Reports software only, not in .Net. It is not working in the CR s/w itself.

This issue is in CR designer. If it doesn't work in the Designer it won't work in code. Need to fix this iin CR first.
