Hi Capital Project is nothing but one type of cost project, When you are investing cost for the maintaing your asset or creating new asset at that time FI -AA (Asset accounting comes in picture ).

When you wanted to plan your cost / Budget not at project level but at organization leve at that time IM will come in to project & here if the same cost is for maintaing asset than IM /PS /AA integration will come up...

    1.Create Investment Program Definition T Code IM01

    2. Create Investment Program Structure T Code IM22

CASE 1 Bottom up Cost Planning3.Creation of WBS for the direct assignment to Position id. T Code Cj20n or assignment can be achieve via Assign Investment measure WBS to Position Id

    T Code IM22

    4. Plan the cost for the created project say for ex. Cj40

5.Roll up of Planned Value from Measure i.e. assign WBS to IM Program T Code IM34

Case 2 Top Down Budget distribution

    6. Creation of Appropriation Request T Code IMA11

    7. Assignment of IM Position id to Appropriation Request. T Code IMA11

8.. Budget distribution to investment measure from IM Position id.

    T code IM52

If FI-AA is there than via Investment profile you does the integration with Asset accounting.

Explore this tcoes with simple demo, it will make better your understadings.

    Hi,

The Investment Management (IM) component provides functions to support the planning, investment, and financing processes for capital investment measures. As SAP R/3 is an integrated system, the IM module is linked in numerous ways to other R/3 components.

In order to represent the capital investment measures, the IM component uses projects (PS). The integration with SAP R/3 Asset Accounting (FI-AA) makes it possible to easily capitalize the costs of projects that require capitalization to a fixed asset. Costs that do not require capitalization can be settled to cost accounting.

IM is mainly used for Centralized buddgeting of various capital investments across the organization for better control and monitoring.

The Planning, Execution, Monitoring of individual investment to be done in PS. But the Budget would flow from IM Structure.
