Custom namespace in a delivered Software Component (Version)

If we create a custom namespace in a delivered software component version will it be wiped out if we ever need to refresh/upgrade that same delivered software component version?

For instance, we may need to change a delivered message map in a delivered SWCV.

If we create a custom namespace, copy the MM to the custom namespace, make the changes and subsequently refresh the delivered SWCV, will our custom MM in the custom namespace be wiped out?

this does not matter as you should not change anything in those SWCV

create your own SWCV (with dependencies to the SAP content SWCV)

and change the mapping (copy) in your namespace

this way nothing will ever be deleted

so in short - create a new software component and use dependencies to

have all objects from other software component inside it

(like message interfaces etc.)

So basically you're saying never create a custom namespace in a delivered SWCV and

you do recommend creating our own custom SWCV and "tie" it to the delivered SWCV?

I've heard it both ways and now I'm confused.

exactly

as there is no point to create anything in a deliveried content

if you know how to use dependencies (and it's no magic)

Sorry for asking what appears to be the same question over and over....

We are realtively new to XI, I am more the developer type and my BASIS person doesn't want to create anything more than necessary

So is it more of a strongly recommended good practice from SAP to create a custom SWCV with dependencies to the delivered SWCV?

OR

Is it dangerous to create a custom namespace within a delivered SWCV?

Finally, when you say create custom SWCV with dependencies, will I see delivered objects in the custom SWCV?
