PIR consumption from WBS demand.

Can a planning strategy be configured to consume PIR's without assembly when the demand comes from a WBS with Q account assignment. The PIRs will be transfered from inactive versions firmed in simulation in LTP.

Hi Wayne,

There is a way to work with PIRs in PS, but not the way you suggest.

The thing is that the PIRs must be in the WBS segment, since the actual procurement according to these PIRs must end in the WBS stock.

Therefore, there is a feature in PS called Advance Procurement, where you assign materials to networks, and the system creates PIRs instead of reservations.

The advantage of this is that at that early point in time you may not have the operative networks in place yet, so you use a high level planning type of network for this purpose.

Later on, when the project becomes more clear, operative networks are created with real material assignments and reservations.

As long as these network activities belong to the same WBS, the reservations will consume the PIRs, so there is no duplication of requirements, and still you are able to procure long lead items well in advance.

By the way, if you consume from plant stock only, then I think that it will work the way you want if you employ a strategy like 70 for example that consumes PIRs with reservations.

Thanks for the reply Mario.

This would work ok but the scenario I am trying cover is long term planning, we are using it to evaluate capacity load for possible demand 5 years in advance. At this point the project/WBS has not been created. Firmed planned orders will be transfered from the inactive version to the active version and these need to be consumed when the material is entered into the newly created Project/WBS. The PIR's will be consumed by different WBS from different projects.
