Hi Gurus,
Is it possible to change the current length of a material number?
At the moment the length of material number is 8 character, can I make it 9 for instance.
Is it safety to do this?
Regards.
Hello Atanaska,
The Material number field is assigned the domain MATNR which is of length 18 , if you need to create and saving materials greater than length of 18 then this would require the domain to be
changed but this would be a BIG modification . Any program or screen where the field RMMG1-MATNR is used would also need to be checked and changed as it result in dumps in your System, it is NOT reccomand at all to do this.
Thanx & Regards
Mauro

No. It is not possible.
There is big work around. But I am not suggesting to go for that:
You can create new materials with same material type extended to same plants, st. locations, sales org, ware house , etc. Covert material to material by MB1B ( mvt 309).
You have to delete all transaction data (sales order, purchase order, etc & create new one.)
