Build a calendar like report

I would like to build a report that will display scheduled activities in a calendar report. The report should have start_date and end_date as input parameters and may be dates where no activity is scheduled. The input would be a table that will have:(date, Activity) columns, but may may not contain a record for each day.

I tried to build the report using two solutions:

1. "Cross Tab " but couldn't solve the following

1.1. I have to have at least an activity for each day of the reporting period.

2.1. If the activity description is bigger than the space allocated for a cell at design time, the cell will not grow.

2. Using the solution described here: http://www.ml-consult.co.uk/cryst-06.htm --> that works but I'm wondering if there is a way to eliminate the table that should store a record for each day of the year.

Any feedback will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,

G.

Option 2 is your best choice.

The only option for avoiding the need for a "celendar" table is if you have another table that contains at least one record for each date. For example, if you have a Sales table or a web log table with at least one record for each date. You can then create a View that simply does a Select Distinct on the date field inside that table.
