I know the answer to this lies in between ABAP and BASIS areas...
How and where do we analyze performance of standard transactions WITHOUT running any traces?

the answer is 'no at all'.
You can analyse performance without using the trace, you can MEASURE the performance,
result is, It need x seconds, but I don't know why'.
I was told that cristal balls help .... sometimes.

Stopwatch, telephone calls, statistics?
Why would you not want to run traces?

Well, I was asked of this by my manager and by your reply, I guess Statistics answers it... I am assuming BASIS would look at the stats based on the transaction logs.
