Hi Mandeep,

can you create an entry in your <Windows Directory>/system32/drivers/etc/hosts file for your host (01HW204914) and retry?

I added that entry.

Do you want us to do complete installation again after adding this entry?

Hi Mandeep,

yes. Since the installation was not complete, the system configuration may be broken.

Prior to doing this though, can you confirm that these are the first error messages contained in your install log files?

Please also try to start the SIA using the Central Configuration management utility and see if any new log files are created in the logging directory. Are there any errors contained in these files?

Regards

Stratos

I have a feeling that if you change your macine name to a name that doesn't start with a number, re-create SIA (also, name with no numbers) - then all will work.

I still get the same error!...in between installation.

I will give log files once installation finishes....

Surprise part is my colleagues installed it on Windows XP also and that too twice!

Using "NETSTAT" in Command Prompt I verfied that ports are free which I am using for installation!

Well good news finally BOXI R3.0 is installed.

What I did.

I simply installed it with MYSQL repository database provided with BOXI R3.0 CD.

Issue identified as per my understanding is that I don't have SYSTEM account privledges on Oracle server, which is seperate machine at different location and hence, BOXI CD is giving error.

You need only Connect and Resource roles on Oracle DB to be able to connect to it.

Sometimes you need to run SIA under domain account for the connection to work.

XP firewall has been known to cause issues on XP from people that didn't follow the supported platforms...

Is the SIA installed? Is the CMS running (task manager or process monitor)?

I am now installing on a machine with Windows server 2003 Enterprise edition.

There was cognos and oracle server installed on same. I have uninstalled both from the machine. Restarted the machine still i get this error.

CMS service cannot be started during installation. After Installation SIA server is not created.

If i try to create it manuallly, nothing gets created

Please advise!

This error usualy indicates issues connecting to a CMS DB.

What DB are you using for CMS DB ?

If you try to create new SIA - does that work ?

Are there any CMS or SIA logs in the logging directory after installtion ?

You can also review install logs to see where exactly it has failed.

I am using a Oracle database.

I have installed BOXI around 10 times by now. It is like banging head against a wall.

I am also making sure while installation that setup the existing database again option is checked.

I can login from SQL net from the machine to connect to database which means machine can connect to oracle server on a differt machine at diff location.

I will put the installation logs on monday for review here!

When I install SIA form outisde, it shows configuring SIA but in end nothing gets added.

Hi,

does your machine have more than 1 network cards on it?

Is BOE XI 3.1 instead of BOE XI 3.0 an option for you?

Machine has standard one netwok card.

I have to install BOXI 3.0, BOXI3.1 is not a option for now. If this is not working what is guarantee that other will work.

CMS log is giving this error

[Mon Apr 13 07:29:40 2009] 2372 3620 assert failure: (.\serverhelper.cpp:15). (pServer1->GetPropString( WP_SI_SERVER_ID_N, serverId ) : no message).

[Mon Apr 13 07:29:40 2009] 2372 3620 assert failure: (.\serverhelper.cpp:36). (0 : Now that there are servers other than OCA servers you have to figure out how to get the machines name).

Hi,

sorry but I cannot confirm this. I have done many installations of the BO XI 3.0 myself and it works fine.

It may be an issue regarding the DB repository as stated before.

It would be great if you could have a look in the <BOBJ installation>/BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.5/logging folder and check the log files created during the installation. More detailed information (error messages) regarding the problem you are facing must be contained there. It can be helpful if you can related CMS related errors in the files and post them here. Please try to identify and post the errors that occurs first.

Please check also the schema you are using in your Oracle DB for the repository. Are there any tables created? What kind of authorizations does your Oracle DB repository user have?

Regards,

Stratos

Hi,

one more question. Which Oracle version are you using exactly?

We are on Oracle 10 G(10.2)

I saw the 9 CMS tables getting created during installation. I was logged into repo database and queried from All_TABLES

Databse user and connection seems fine to me.
