HI all,

We are in the process of handing over the oracle db to the Dba team. This server has sap on it so the dba team is asking us whether it is different from the normal database handling or is it the same.

Hi

Handling an oracle database where SAP is using the same and a normal oracle database is somewhat different . this is because of the extra parameters required from SAP perspective , brtools knowledge ( assuming that brtools will be handled by the DBA ) and the init files in dbs folder within the oracle home.

Please check this link which provides a quick glance of SAP on Oracle.

Thanks

ask them to use BR*TOOLS whenever it is possible. note that Oracle on SAP uses the OPS$ and SAPxxx userID to authenticate.

Also, they might find that path ro things like alert_sid.log, archive logs and even datafiles do not follow Oracle standard ways. They will need to adapt to this. Provide them access to SAP notes and ask them to stick to SAP's recommendations. such as SAP note 830576.

Hi,

I think they need to have some knowledge about SAP (May be short KT might help). Some of the functions for example flashback in not supported in some combinations of oracle/SAP installation.

Hope this helps.

Hello ,

Handling of database will be same but your DBA team needs knowledge of SAP and its functinality to work within, knowledge of database alone will not solve the purpose

otherwise you will have to tell them your requirement(like tuning, increasing the space etc.) from database side and the they have to execute that but together with SAP team, they can't exist indivudually
