Hi Joyce,
Do you mean that you are not able to see the DBMS type in the Repositories pane in Console? I am not clear with your question.
Check the following :
--While creating the repository , you can choose the DBMS Server from an existing one or add a new one by clicking on the "..." button and Add the instance name followed by the DBMS server type in the square braces. Ex:ABC[Max DB]
--You can also check the DBMS settings.
--Also try to check the configuration in mdm_list.ini in MDM Server.
--Check the following link
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdmgds55/helpdata/EN/88/9f9c427055c66ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm(DBMS Settings)
Let me know if this resolved your issue.
Regards
SR

Hi joyce,
At which step exactly are you facing this error.
If you are trying to select the DBMS server while creating an MDM repository and you are not able to view the DBMS instance, then you have an option to ADD the instance and then selecting the same.
You can have a look at the Matser guide which talks about the installations and use of MDM:

Hope It Helped
Thanks & Regards
