SAP License for ABAP

Former Member

Dear all

We are using ECC6.0. We needed to some upgradation work on our development system. After this, we lost our credentials as hardware key and Expiry date with SLICENSE. It is showing an expired temporary license as Old license and two valid licenses as new licenses. But these valid licenses are not working, so I am only able to log on with SAP*, which cant work for gettin the Hardware key as desired credential. I am also not able to install temporary license as it has already expired.

So can anybody suggest me the way to install new temporary license or any other optional method to solve my issue.

With regards

Virender Sharma

Hai,

To Install Temporary license from OS level as sidadm user, do the following:

Using saplicense -temp

1. At operating system level, log on to the host that runs the central SAP instance either as user adm (UNIX and Windows).

2. Enter saplicense -temp.

When prompted, enter the SAP system ID.

The system displays the following message after the successful installation of the temporary license: saplicense: Temporary license successfully installed.

I have already tried saplicense for temp, but as I already have an expired license, so it is giving error regarding this license. And I cant delete this licencse also.

Suggest me some other solution.

As already has been suggested, get the hardware key from Unix level:

saplicense -get

(I suppose it changed because of your activities.)

Then go to http://service.sap.com/licensekey and get a new license.

Then apply the new license in transaction SLICENSE.

(Afaik saplicense at Unix level will not work here for ECC6.0.)

hope this helps

Hi virender,

you cannot apply temp license again and again from OS level

request license from SAP is only solution for you

till than you can only login as sap* user

I can only get the hardware key but cant use it as credential with SLICENSE, which is the part of my issue

Dear Samrat

i know it thats why I am asking for any other solution, as SAP* cant retrieve Hardware key remotely.

Did you try the sequence given above ??

You will need the hardware key for http://service.sap.com/licensekey ,

you will not need it for SLICENSE.

as SAP* cant retrieve Hardware key remotely.

What do you mean by remotely?....

As mentions 3 times already, you can retrive the hardware key by using saplicense -get, then request a new license.

But it must be mentioned in the field named as Active Hardware key, when we install License received from SAP service marketplace, but here it is empty.

It will be filled once you install the correct license... you will also need to remove the old licenses....

He is actually trying to say that he has installed the New license which is received from SAP via SLICENSE through SAP* and it is giving the message license has been installed successfully, But after this it is not able to get the Hardware key in SLICENSE and system is giving same message if any user try to login with their ID

Logon not possible error in license check

I had never seen this problem before as there is not any change even hardware key is also the same

that error should be gone when you remove the expired temp license... for that user saplicense -delete (at OS level)

Hello Virender,

maybe it's time now to give us a bit more of information about the upgrade you mentioned in your initial post.

What is your operating system and your database?

What are old and new versions?

This info may be helpful, but it is not an answer to my question:

and what exactly did you upgrade?

If you don't know, then please could you ask the people who did the upgrade?

Actually the issue was that system was getting Kernel Panic and goes down so Our System administrator has done some update with this command

initrd image were rebuild with the command mkinitrd /image/nameoffile then kernel version

And after that this problem has been started, and now i believe that there is not any other option to restore the complete system, becuase it is not able to identify the Hardware Key from SAP level.

Note: this was not my post but i am attending becuase my collegue has left for the day.

Hello Subhash,

so it is a Linux problem?

One last comment from my side; it may or may not be helpful:

We had a couple of problems when upgrading SuSE Linux a few months ago. Hardware key had changed, and we had to apply some special SuSE Linux patches that do not come along with the usual upgrade package from SuSE.

But no problem with SLICENSE.

@Rahul,

Thanks a lot rahul will try but my system is standalone central system.

hi,

you can log on to your OS using <sid>adm user if you are using UNIX.

run saplicense command.

>saplicense -get

this command will show you your hardware key. you can also install your new license key using this command.

For more information about how to use saplicense command, just type : >saplicense --help
