Make-to-stock for configurable sub assembly/component

Hi

I am coming across a problem where I can't make out the best way of resolving it.

I have an assembly material A which is configurable. This product A is typically sold on the back of a firm sales order using make-to-order with configuration.

Assembly A has a configurable component B which inherits the configuration for one of the characteristics (Paint) since it is painted in its own right.

So, material B is setup as a configurable material and can be sold as a spare as well like the product A itself using make-to-order with configuration in a sales order.

So far, so good.

The problem I have is this:

I also create material variant A# for product A to create a show model/dealership model which i can keep in stock. Now, when i create the Make-to-stock production order i got the problem that component B doesn't inherit the colour from the material variant A#. What do I need to do?

Either i create a material variant B# and do a heck of a lot in the configuration model and still don't have a way of dealing with this properly.

Or should i make material B a phantom assembly? - i think this would make more sense...

Other options?

Thanks for any advice.

Bjorn

using special procurement key 50 for "phantom assembly" works for this.

* just need to amend the routing for product A with the operations of subassembly B

* allocate components of BOM for subassembly B to the appropriate operations in routing for product A

works fine for Make-to-order of product A as well as make-to-stock for material variant A#
