Export SharedRepository-Models

Former Member

Hi all,

we are currently migrating our dev-stuff into NWDI and are having problems exporting existing models from the VC shared-repository.

Error: cannot export ... because model or referenced components have not been saved in local repository.

After "Save As" in a local DC it doesn't work either...

Error: cannot export ... still the same error.

Any idea how to properly export the shared repository?

Thanks,

Kai

Hi

Exporting from the shared workspace/NWDI is possible as of 7.1 version so I assume you are using a previous version.

To overcome this issue, in case upgrading the system is not an option, you will need to do save each of the models onto the local workspace (DC), drag and drop the services (BAPI/RFC, web service etc.) you are referencing in that model, and replace the usages you have in the local model. This is because when "saving as" a model into the local workspace, we keep the references intact, that is pointing to the shared workspace.

But I strongly suggest to avoid this hassle and upgrade to 7.1 version because:

1. you will be able to export the models even from the shared/NWDI repository

2. Performance of DTR is much better in this version (actually we are working heavily on the following service packs of 7.1 to have it performing much faster and we made notable success in the one that is going to be released within the next few months)

Hope this answer your question/s

Thanks for your replies.

VC is NW7.1 (pre-EHP1) and NWDI is 7.0.

The export-functionality should be a VC-only-problem and not related to NWDI, isn't it?

When upgrading NWDI to 7.1, does the VC-export really work for shared repositories?

thanks,

Kai

Hi

Q1. "The export-functionality should be a VC-only-problem and not related to NWDI, isn't it?"

A1. It is a VC issue and not related to NWDI

Q2. "When upgrading NWDI to 7.1, does the VC-export really work for shared repositories?"

A2. Since it's a VC realted issue, upgrading NWDI will have no impact on the functionality of VC hence the answer to your question is negative. Nevertheless, as of EhP1 VC allowse export of models (and their dependencies, among which are data services) from the shared repository/DTR as well

Hi Kai,

I had the same issue and had contacted SAP to help. I would suggest you to do that. A good starting point of contact is "Shai Kfir". He and his team helped to resolve it.

Please get in touch with him.
