Concerning your question:

The GenIL has not changed much, at least not the concept, from CRM 4.0. If you can not get ahold of documentation describing it for CRM 6.0 maybe have a try with the IC WebClient from CRM 4.0 onwards.

Sadly I do not know of any free available documentation on the GenIL topic. In my opinion it is very different for every BOL component you encounter. When programming BT, BP_APPL or the one for products you will meet different concepts. Creating a new component is another topic.

In your CRM system there should be a sample provided by SAP for developing a new component. Search for the contents of package CRM_GENIL_SAMPLE. This is how I started out.
